My name is Kara and I am the mom of two boys.

Prior to my first pregnancy, I had never heard of Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP). At 17 weeks, I started itching all over my body and at 18 weeks was diagnosed with severe cholestasis. I ended up delivering at 31 weeks 5 days due to preeclampsia. With my second pregnancy, I made it to 28 weeks before the itching started. Because my levels were in the 300s at that point and I also had elevated liver enzymes and right upper quadrant pain, my OB decided it would be best to induce me at 34 weeks. I am grateful that today both my boys are happy and healthy.

I am passionate about spreading awareness of ICP because I remember the fear of the unknown that came from my first Cholestasis of pregnancy.
