I am Erin living in central Kansas on a farm and ranch with my husband and two girls. Both itchy babies and my story with Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) is a little different than most.
With my first daughter I did not know I was pregnant until I was 23 weeks and a couple days. It was a shock that I was pregnant, let alone a few weeks later, diagnosed with ICP and delivered at 37! Talk about a rush!! My second daughter was very planned, I awaited the symptoms, sure enough they came. Although having the knowledge I did, I made sure to advocate for myself and my daughter. We got baselines pulled early, had regular monitoring early, and without having a proactive doctor and the ICP Care group I don’t know what I would have done.
I am moved to help women that aren’t aware of the seriousness of ICP to pay attention to their bodies and help educate them through protocols recommended by ICPCare.org. Knowing that it is genetic, I’ve helped my sister stay proactive in her and her baby’s health. That’s the goal, just to help.
